Battle Ready Christians Part 3: Knowing Our Weapons

Battle Ready Christians Part 3
Knowing Our Weapons

(This series is attributed to my husband, James L. Stevens)

2 Corinthians 10:4
2 Corinthians 2:11
Our weapons are not of this world.  We are fighting a spiritual battle and must have spiritual weapons. There is an enemy seeking to destroy, but we will not be ignorant of his devices!!!!

James 4:7-10
What does this scripture tell you?
____________________________________________________________________

Ephesians 6:10-18
This lists our armor.   The Greek word  Panoply  is used here.  This means” full suit of armor”.  We need a full suit of armor.  There is also a weapon listed.  The sword- the word of God.  This is followed by prayer.
1 Corinthians 7:5
Hebrews 4:12
John 10:10
John 14:6

Our weapons are:

LIFE
WORD
PRAYER
FASTING

Jesus is life.  We come to him and have life. We come to him through word, prayer and fasting.  These are weapons we can wield to defeat the enemy.

2 Timothy 3:17
We must be fully equipped and prepared.  We must know our weapons. God thoroughly furnishes or equips us for the battle.  We must take hold of these things as our weapons and put them into practice.
Have you applied these weapons?  Think and plan how you can apply these weapons on a daily and weekly basis.

Battle Ready Christians Part 2: Conditioning/Spiritual Readiness

Battle Ready Christians Part 2
Conditioning/Spiritual Readiness

(This series is attributed to my husband, James L. Stevens)

Any good soldier has gone through conditioning to prepare themselves for the physical aspects of battle.  Christians need to go through spiritual conditioning to be spiritually ready for the battle.

Flesh vs. Spirit  read Galatians 5:19-25

What aspects of the spirit do we need to be developing in our life?
_______________________________________________________________

Like the old story told about the indian explaining that people good and evil is like two wolves fighting inside us.  The one we feed is the one that wins.  Feed the good spiritual man and the spirit will be stronger and ready to face the battles ahead.

Galatians 5:16-17

walk after the _________________

We are needing to condition our spiritual man to make him stronger.  We must feed our spiritual man through
    -reading the word
    -consistent prayer
    -fasting
worship and praise
church and fellowship

Read 1John 1:1-10

Why does God want to make our joy full and want us to walk in the light.
Sin hinders that walk.  Feeding the spiritual man helps combat sin and helps us keep sin out of our hearts.   Take some time this evening to allow God to speak to your heart and confess to him any hindrances.  Ask him to forgive you and lead you in the light.

Battle Ready Christians Part 1: Knowing the History and Values of God

Battle Ready Christians Part 1
Knowing the History and Values of God
(This series is attributed to my husband: James L. Stevens)

We must have good knowledge and understanding of who God is, and what He can do. To know God we must know His word.
2 Timothy 2:15
What is a good way to study and learn His word?
_____________________________________________________________________

knowledge of God-we need to have knowledge of God to be able to share this knowledge with others.
2 Corinthians 2:14

God wants to bless and do His will through you. His will should be first in our lives.
Philippians 2:13
What do you know to be the will of God in your life?
____________________________________________________________________
What is His good pleasure?
____________________________________________________________________
Obedience is better than sacrifice.  God asks for obedience to His will and word.
1 Samuel 15:22

Knowing the will of God and His word will help lead us in truth.  If we do not study His word, we cannot know for certain that we are in His will.  This is why we must daily read the Bible and pray for understanding.

Read 1 Kings 3:3-14.  Solomon asked for knowledge.  God greatly blessed him because of this knowledge.

As a christian who wants to be like Christ, we must know who he is, what he has done and what he can do.  He gave us the Bible, His Word, so that we would know what he has done, what he wants, how much he loves us and what he can do.  He wants to bless us and use us.  Basically, get the history down as a reference so we can speak of the future to come. When we know more about Him, we can rest in the knowledge that he loves His people and wants to love them, and have a relationship with him.
Challenge!!  make time to daily learn more of God by reading His word.

When studying the Bible
ASK- pray and ask God to open his word to you and give you understanding
READ- read the passage, take note of what intrigues you, read again if necessary.
REFLECT- what grabs you? What connections do you see to your life? Let it take root.
RESPOND-  to this scripture. Speak directly to God about what is on your heart and ask him to direct you in how you can apply what has been revealed in this scripture and live it.
